Danganronpa 2×2 Developer Explains Why They Chose to Remake the Second Game Instead of the First
In a recent interview, Danganronpa 2×2 producer Shohei Sakakibara shed light on Spike Chunsoft's decision to remake the second game in the series rather than focusing on the first.
Initially, the team considered remaking the original Danganronpa, but they soon realized the potential disruption it could cause. The story of the first game, they noted, was fundamental to the Danganronpa franchise.
Sakakibara explained to Famitsu (https://www.famitsu.com/article/202509/52362) that they initially planned to alter the narrative without changing the world or characters, but this approach would have had a significant impact on the series' foundation. Therefore, they decided to remake the second game, ensuring the integrity of the game world while offering fans a fresh Danganronpa experience.
Famitsu inquired about the new scenario, confirming that it would be entirely different from the original second game, with a complete overhaul from the moment players arrive on Jabberwock Island. Sakakibara confirmed this, stating that while the introduction remains the same, the story takes a different turn shortly after the start, and the new scenario and remake are distinct projects.
Danganronpa 2×2 is set to release on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. For more information, visit (https://nintendoeverything.com/danganronpa-2x2-announced-for-nintendo-switch-2-switch/).
