Post subject: Why is my Super Avenger stopping after 10 days?

If I'm correct, a Super Avenger is meant to have a reserve of about 42 hours.

If I fully wind it (40 times) and leave it on the desk it run itself down, it does indeed meet this reserve.

But I've found that on two occasions when wearing the watch daily for about 10 days, it would stop the next morningand I would have to set the time and wind it again.

Is the movement from daily activities not enough to keep the watch running indefinetly?

This brings me to my second question which is, would it damage the watch at all if say, after a week of daily wear I gave the watch about 30 winds before going to bed to prevent the watch from stopping?

Yes, daily activities should be more than enough to keep a watch running pretty much indefinitely, provided you a) wear the watch enough - i.e. at least 10 to 12 hours or so a day, and b) you move above enough - i.e. you aren't bed-ridden or anything.

No, it won't cause any damage at all (barring anything like cross-threading the crown by accident of course!)

I wear my watch for about 12 hours a day.
Walking to and back from tube station (20 mins return) and normal office activities, ie. typing on computer, tending the phone, writing etc

Would have thought this would be enough to keep my watch going. Any reason why it might be stopping just after a week?

Definitely worth checking it out, if the reserve is OK then the problem would have to be in the automatic winding, but it might just be that you aren't moving enough.

Typing on a keyboard doesn't involve much wrist movement, and if you areright handed with the watch on your left wrist then writing, phone, etc may not give you enough.

As said winding won't hurt until you can get the watch checked.

I'm with Roff on this one. Although you might have the watch on your wrist for 12 hours a day, it sounds like for a good number of those hours, you're not moving enough to keep it wound. It's possible there's something wrong with the winding mechanism, but I'm inclined to think you might want to test it more yourself before going to the trouble of taking it into an AD. One way to test it would be if you have a winder. Give the watch a full manual wind, then place it on the winder for a couple weeks and see if it stops. One way or the other, you'll get an answer.

Sorry guys, but personally I think the OP is doing more than enough to keep it wound if the watch is working correctly. I have an office job as well, and I've never yet had a watch stop me, even if it's just been sitting on my nightstand overnight (i.e. not in a winder..... obviously! ).

It'll be interesting to find out if the watch has a problem of not.

Simply shaking it may not be giving it enough juice to keep running, but obviously giving it a full wind should not only start it back up, but should also give it a full power reserve. If it still isn't running, then yeah, that's a big problem. Sorry you're having that issue, especially since you've had problems before; I hope you get it sorted out.
